Pack it Up! Jewelry Essentials for College!

It’s that time of the year again.  The time when you have to accept that summer is coming to a close, and classes are starting again.  It’s both exciting and stressful.  One way to lower the stress, and maximize the excitement is to look your best.   The vintage look is popular these days, so put vintage and quality costume jewelry on your shopping list this school year.  And be sure to bring pieces that are not high in dollar value; it is hard to keep valuables safe.

Packing Jewelry for College

College students learn to minimize their possessions, as less space is available to store your stuff!  Boxes of Jewelry are not needed, but a few dependable pieces will complete your ensembles.    Why is vintage better than modern?   Simply put, the quality is much better.   For example in vintage rhinestone jewelry, the stones are prong set; in modern jewelry they are glued.  Of course, there are many modern quality made items, and they are generally crafted by a jewelry maker, and are a stellar addition to your collection.  Some must haves for your college jewelry box include:

A Statement Necklace

Invest in a bold statement necklace!   Vintage pieces are great and you can find a nice selection in my store.  A bold necklace can transform a comfy t-shirt and jeans.

Layer-able Necklaces

Simple chain necklaces of either gold or silver are easy to combine and make you appear stylish with little effort. When paired with a free-flowing dress or top, you’re outfit will be complete.

Simple Stud Earrings

The best go-to earrings for an everyday outfit are simple stud earrings.  Simple yet cute, they pair easily with most other jewelry pieces.   A few fun colorful big earrings could be just what you need to give you your own style.

Stack-able Bangle Bracelets

Bracelets are great; you can wear one or wear many.   With many colors and textures, you can easily update your look.  The options to mix and match are as endless as bracelets available!

The Bottom Line

Vintage necklaces, bracelets, earrings or all of the above – make this school year the most memorable and successful of all!   With vintage jewelry, you’ll bring your own unique style to class.   Or perhaps wear a fun look that is your own style – anything goes; you might even sport a Tweety Bird!

  1. Oh, I remember how small my dorm was. I would have loved to have had every accessory under the sun, but there just wasn’t room. I remember having a silk jewelry roll that had room for my pearls, my sorority’s lavolier and pin, my diamond studs and a few costume pieces for fun. That was about it. Paring down to the essentials is key. Great points!

  2. College or not, these are great pieces and tips all round.
I didn’t have much in the way of jewellery as a younger person, but now have some nice pieces.

    • What a nice thing to say! I don’t think many of us had much – or not near as much as the students of today. Glad you have your nice pieces.

  3. This is great idea. I will share this with my niece. She is all about looking good. She wanted to a model. Well, of course, school comes first.

  4. Love your style! I went to University locally, but wish I would have had your fashion sense. Always a great blog! Would love to hear about jewelry and traveling!

  5. Back when I was in college I wasn’t as into jewelry as I am now (I want that Givenchy red/gold statement necklace!). If I went to college now, I don’t think I could pick only a few pieces! I would want them all with me. But you gave some very practical suggestions for the student on the move.

  6. That Givenchy necklace is more gorgeous that in the photos. Super heavy, and will be a show stopper. Perhaps add it to your Christmas wish list?

  7. Some good tips here about jewelry for college students, but also for those who might not be college students. 🙂

  8. Good advice for those living in a small space. I like the statement necklace!

  9. I love the vintage appearance, especially in Fall. It reminds me of my college days when I use to fumble on what jewelry to wear.Great tips
